Thoughts
I was David's PhD student a long time ago! He was a lovely man, who I will always be indebted to. David gave me the opportunity to flourish, encouraging independence and a strong work ethic. I spent 10 years in the USA, bumping into David many times at meetings. It was always a pleasure to see him. I returned to the UK and was promoted to Professor at Bristol. David kept in contact with Christmas cards and emails. I felt truly honoured when he invited me to join a happy gang of disgruntled academics on my retirement! I'll miss him, I was indeed the lucky one!
